Whitley Bay Islanders are a team that in recreational hockey terms have a long history going back to their inception in 1985. Starting out as a supporter’s team of the Whitley Warriors, The Islanders evolved and ultimately became the type of recreational team at Whitley Bay where numerous ex Warriors and league players wishing to continue their hockey at a respectable level would find a home, which in the early days of the team was an evolution that few could have ever imagined.
Today’s Islanders are a mixed bag of some of the original founding players combined with a new generation of ex league and long-term rec players with the result being a diverse squad held together by an ever-enduring love of beer and who all coincidentally can play a bit of hockey. In fact The Islanders have often found their greatest successes after a night of inebriation and you could say our drinking team has a hockey problem.
Always looking for new challenges The Islanders have set their sights on the NRHC as being a competition that can provide an opportunity to once again face old adversaries which in turn will hopefully lead to the opportunity of facing some new adversaries and a few beers along the way.
